The brief was clear: create an ephemeral space for Formica Group at Casa Decor 2024, showcasing their new range of innovative materials. But we knew this was more than just a display. It was a chance to rethink how narrative and interior design can transform even the most extreme spaces — and build community around them.
We dug deep into the booming bunker trend sweeping the globe. How do you design a bunker people actually want to stay in? A space that balances the hard realities of survival with real comfort and well-being? That question became our compass. Our research revealed a skyrocketing demand for bunkers worldwide — a booming market full of tension between fear and hope, protection and humanity. We set out to create something that flips that script.
Inspired by brutalist architecture, Cozy Bunker is a hideout for extreme situations — but also a place to truly disconnect and recharge. The design sparks a dialogue between opposites: the stony, solid access corridor evokes security and inaccessibility, while the warm, minimalist interior invites relaxation and hope. The space blends survival and wellbeing into one seamless experience.
Built entirely with high-pressure laminates by Formica, metallic laminates by Homapal, and innovative FENIX surfaces, the bunker showcases these materials’ versatility in design, volume, and color. Every detail — from playing with heights to soft indirect lighting — is crafted to balance structural strength with inviting warmth.
The buzz was undeniable. Awareness exploded nationally and internationally — across print, digital, radio, and even TV — driving a ROI of over €300,000. The narrative and concept connected powerfully with people worldwide, proving that a bunker can be bold, beautiful, and brilliant.
Cozy Bunker is more than an interior project. It’s a fresh take on what refuge means today: a space where survival meets soul, and where design can transform fear into comfort and connection.
